Our regular business meeting will follow a talk on Mexico.
See details below.
We'll meet in the annex of St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Danforth (at Chester).
Enter through the gate at 171 Hampton Street along the west side of the church, the first gate past the playground. If no one's at the door to let you in, please knock.
Starting at 7 pm, Michael Ballin and Cara Gibbons, Mexico Coordinators for Amnesty Canada, will give a talk entitled Justice and Human Rights in a Period of Deepening Crisis in Mexico.
Michael Ballin lived in Mexico from 2000-2003 and has volunteered on local and national committees for Oxfam Canada since 1974. He is an enthusiastic supporter of Amnesty's Demand Dignity Campaign, generally and specifically in Mexico. He has professor emeritus standing at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, where he was an Associate Professor of English for 28 years.
Cara Gibbons just completed an M.A. degree in International Law and has worked on the case of Ines Fernandez Ortega and Valentina Rosendo Cantu, two women seeking justice against soldiers from the Mexican Army who allegedly raped them.
All are welcome. For further information contact Brian Deming, 647 342-0846 or firstname.lastname@example.org
